About Us
Pedro and Sonia Deleon have been caretakers of livestock (chickens, goats, pigs, and cows) for more than three decades. Throughout that time, they have witnessed first-hand the devastation of losing livestock to predators. Through many years of experience, they have become well versed on how to effectively keep their livestock investment(s) safe. The Deleon’s originally invested in the Great Pyrenees breed as their sole choice for livestock guardian dogs. The Great Pyrenees guarded the Deleon’s farm for many years until Pedro heard of the Karakachan breed. After doing extensive research and speaking with other livestock farm owners that used Karakachan dogs, Pedro decided to invest in his own. Doofus (previous named by the original owner) became the first Karakachan dog the Deleon’s brought onto their farm. In the words of Pedro “He’s hands down the best dog I’ve ever had.” Doofus was everything Pedro was looking for in a guardian breed. Fearless, loyal, an excellent protector, great demeanor, and good around people, especially kids. Doofus passed of old age on their farm in Magnolia in 2020. After owning Doofus, Pedro invested in several more Karakachan’s to protect their farm. The Deleon’s are still fond of the Great Pyrenees breed and still own several, but rely on their Karakachan’s to primarily protect their livestock farm.
Deleon’s Farm is located in Franklin, Texas. The farm sits on 50 acres that is home to chickens, pigs, goats, and cows. Pedro & Sonia raised three girls on their farm in Magnolia, Texas. In 2021 their quiet life of being empty nesters changed when they accepted guardianship and then adopted their niece and nephew from birth. Pedro & Sonia are loving life raising their adopted kids on their dream farm in Franklin. The farm is also home to their youngest daughter and her family. Having guardian dogs that are friendly and non-aggressive to kids has been a top priority to the Deleon’s.
